PRESS RELEASE
The Jeannie Avent Gallery presents
Featuring Conceptual Artist
Laura Hepworth and Ceramicist Katie Iacovou Introducing a collaborative exhibition Land Over Sea by Conceptual Artist Laura Hepworth and Ceramicist Katie Iacovou, at the Jeannie Avent Gallery, opening on Wednesday 31st July-14 August 2019. Amongst the many things Hepworth and Iacovou have in common, it was clear, through childhood memories and holidays, Laura and Katie shared a love for Cornwall, the natural beauty of its coastline and open spaces. Land Over Sea sees these two local artists come together to celebrate the definition of process, how process can be utilized as a means to experiment within their disciplines, creating a collection of works through the means of paintings and ceramics. |
Katie Iacovou is a Ceramicist based in Forest Hill, London.
Katie’s organic forms and vessels are inspired by nature and particularly motivated by the textures that the coastline provides. The rugged cliff tops are a constant source of inspiration, providing marks and various textures such as rust and corrosion. These are reflected in the glazes that she uses, often experimenting and layering glazes to achieve interesting results. After graduating with a degree in Studio Ceramics at Flamouth College of Arts, in Cornwall, Katie returned to London where she is originally from and started to work for various Design agencies, for the next 15 years. Following a long break from making due to work and family commitments she is now happily making again in her garden studio. Katie’s vessels are unique one off pieces and are always evolving, as is the landscape that surrounds us. Katie will be showing her work next at Art@57 at 57, North Cross Rd, SE22 on 26th October 2019. to edit. |
